A Guildford-based chamber choir of around 30 members, The Chantry Singers was formed in 1983. Established by Tim Venvell (an assistant in the music department of Guildford's Royal Grammar School), the choir was initially comprised of staff, parents and other invited singers. Today they are one of the foremost chamber choirs in the area, giving high quality performances of choral works ranging from Renaissance masterpieces to music by contemporary composers. The choir specialises in presenting highly unusual themed programmes which often combine unfamiliar and slightly challenging music alongside old favourites.
After a very successful 20 year partnership with Roy Rashbrook as Music Director, The Chantry SIngers is embarking on a new era with Peter Hicks. Peter's first rehearsal as Music Director will be on 7th January 2025.
We are looking for new members in all voice parts. Our rehearsals are open to the public and to potential new members, so why not pay us a visit?
Singing is a great way to enjoy yourself in a friendly community with others of like mind, working together to create a musical performance in a concert. It also produces many proven physical and mental health benefits. We work in a friendly atmosphere, enjoying singing together, with laughs along the way, and a sense of real artistic achievement as it all comes together at the concert.
We rehearse on Tuesday evenings at 7.45pm, at Church of the Holy Spirit, New Inn Lane Guildford GU4 7HW
